Exciting Irish prospect wins another gold medal at the European Junior Swimming championships

It was a third medal finish for Mona McSharry in the championships.

IRISH TEENAGER MONA McSharry has added another gold medal to her collection at the European Junior Swimming championships.

The Sligo native came home in a time of 1.07.61 seconds to win the 100m Breastroke, and bring her medal count to three at the championships.

She won her first gold in the 50m Breaststroke on Wednesday, before following that up with a silver medal finish in the 200m Breaststroke on Friday.

McSharry, of the Marlins club in Ballyshannon, finished just 0.13 behind the winner in that race.

Despite not taking the gold medal, her race time of 2.27.44 was enough to break Fiona Doyle’s previous record by over a second.
